This piece uses movements initiated from the lower spine to create a sense of core and grounded energy. By placing the events into a beach scenario the movements have a context. The events of the piece occur in deliberate spatial locations within the stage space. This segmenting and partitioning of movement is unified by the use of the props and character development.
In essence, I NEVER WORE A BIKINI, is a tiny melodrama. The quirky, disjointed movement style is accented by the juxtaposition of the operatic voice within the sound score. The use of exaggerated gestures along with the unusual costume effects, adds a sense of playful humor.
The performer traces a line a circle and a dot with such slow and methodic determination it can hardly be seen until the closing scene. The human form is visually transformed which is created by the unique costume and through the use of angular shapes, unexpected balances and hip isolations. In the final moments, the performer balances the human form close to ground level. The piece comes to a final resolve using an elongated balance sustained with breathtaking strength.
