2005 / 12 minutes 35 seconds
This piece is performed in three segments and is accompanied by live jazz guitar and bass. It begins with slow motion gestures and quick unexpected pauses. The piece winds intricately around the musicians forecasting the tensions to come. Through fancy footwork and off kilter balances the left and right sides of the body create a forceful and violent opposition. By using space holds, uncontrolled repetitive movements, slapping and fighting gestures of the hands and feet, a humorous dynamic occurs.
Finally the left side of the body leads through space by using random directional patterns breaking apart the ability to move in a coherent fashion.
Left vs. Right premiered at Bucketworks, Milwaukee, Wisconsin in October, 2005 during the Katrina Benefit and was well received at the Peninsula Art Center in Door County Wisconsin, January 2006.
